Treasures Hidden In Plain Sight

Treasures Hidden In Plain Sight

Matthew 6:19-21 New International Version (NIV)

Treasures in Heaven

19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Time, life and experiences change the way we look at things… such as our definition of Treasures …
The best things in life are not things. That’s one of my favorite quotes.
We all have treasures hidden in plain sight.

Some treasures are in heaven  and some are on the earth: Buried Treasure is a treasure that can’t be seen

Mama Laura
I remember my husbands’ grandmother, whom I loved very much. We called her Mama Laura. She said that one day she looked in the mirror and thought, ” Where did that old woman come from?” Mama Laura was very active all her life. She loved sewing, working in her yard, decorating, cooking, fashion, makeup and she was good at all of it! Her signature color was a deep pink and she was pretty in pink!
Inside her house had a lot of pinks, she surrounded herself with things she enjoyed.  I learned a lot from her. One thing she taught me was how to hang wallpaper and so much more. She told me I was like a daughter to her, she made me feel loved and welcomed. What an amazing lady she was.

Her activity level changed when she was no longer physically able to do the things she loved due to a surgery that changed her ability to be independent. She was a strong woman who had been through so much in her life but never let any of it break her. As long as she was able to she decided to enjoy life.
My Mother
My mother was always energetic! If she was sitting in the living room, watching T.V. she would be cleaning out a drawer at the same time! It was hard for her to just sit still. How she loved thrift shopping. Most of my family can take something old and make it look very nice. How she enjoyed family gatherings, cooking and collecting dishes and teapots.
Ancestry also was of great interest to her as well. I remember how excited she got when she found out we were related to the Dalton brothers!! “But they were bad guys”, I said, and she responded, “but they were still famous.” we both laughed and  I replied,” Yea, they were very infamous.”
I told her they were bad boys except for their brother Emmett. I have to smile a little because she always seemed to be attracted to the James Dean type. Just to make things clear ancestry says their Dad is my 1st cousin 5x removed so they are not close relatives. I am prouder of some of my other “relatives”… such as cousin George or The Queen.. lol…of course she never knew about them. I treasure all my current family the most.
The best though was her love for God, his word and being part of the family of God.
Her energy level changed when she was only able to go as far as her oxygen tank cord would allow. She said that in her mind she still wanted to rearrange her room or go shopping but couldn’t because she got so short of breath so quickly. She went from being on the go all the time to not being able to go at all. The best treasure is to know they made it to heaven.

 Still Me On The Inside

No matter what changes in life due to age or health, who we are inside will always want to go and do the things we have always enjoyed. This is a reminder to take care of yourself because time waits for no one and the clock is ticking. You can’t turn back time so the time to begin is now. Treasure yourself enough to take good care of your body, mind, and spirit. Decide today to make better choices.
I love these photos, they are so true and a great visual.

Treasures Stored Up in Heaven
I was talking to my son the other day and he said the fact that we get older every day and will die someday is kind of sad if you think about it.
This morning I was thinking about that conversation again. I miss the people who used to be part of my life so much.  My Grandmother who raised me, her grandchildren called her Mama Grace I called her Mama. I  loved her so much, she was pure love in human form. My Grandfather who always seemed so proud that I was a teacher even though I would always say, “I’m a substitute”, and he would say,” You are still a teacher” and smile.
Another special lady, my sister/aunt Annette she was so talented. Annette was crafty and she loved to dance to the oldies, I remember her and my mom dancing the jitterbug! What a great cook she was. Anette loved the mountains and the beach, just like me. She was very good to me and I loved her very much.
My mother Connie loved to give, you can’t walk in a room in my house without seeing something that she gave me. She loved to dance, cook and give to those she loved, she adored Christmas and so do I.
My uncle/brother who said I reminded him of his mother and he always asked me to pray for him because I sounded like her when I prayed. I still remember holding his hand praying for him and at one point I opened my eyes and he was looking right in my face with the sweetest expression on his face. He had cancer at that time. He was a such a talented author, artist and engaging conversationist. He is missed.

My Yorkie, Molly,
I rescued her and she loved me for it, she was a true gift from God, He literally gave her to me!  She was such a good companion, I needed her as much as she needed me. Little Molly got to the point she couldn’t hear or see, and she stopped jumping up on the sofa because of arthritis. She slept in her cozy bed on the floor beside my bed. It’s still hard to see a bare floor where so much love used to sleep. When I first got her the Vet said she was around 4 or 5 years old. I had her for 12 years, she weighed about 5 lbs and was my sweet little friend. I asked God to have her waiting in heaven for me.

Missing Pieces
That’s quite a treasure trove of missing pieces. It’s also a lot of missing pieces of my heart. One thing that changed in all these people and even my pet was their health. Good health is such a treasure and often taken for granted.  We need to maintain good health as long as we can, which means not partaking in things we know can harm our bodies or minds to the best of our ability.
We can’t change what we have done in the past but we can start right where we are today, by making better decisions and choices. One day at a time.

The scripture that says for us to store up treasures in heaven reminds me of all my loved ones, they are part of those treasures awaiting in heaven for me. It is true that part of my heart is in heaven. Not to mention Jesus, my Lord, and Savior, our creator of all things beautiful and good.
James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Trusting That God Sees The Big Picture

God see’s the bigger picture, but since we cant see the bigger picture its not always easy to make decisions. I hope in some way this will help.
