Searching for Beauty, from the inside out.
The most beautiful and important part of a person is our Spirit. That is the part of us that lives forever! Of course, we need to take care of our body; but that part is temporary. There is a verse – James 4:13-14 that says…
Do Not Boast of Tomorrow
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” 14 You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.”
So, our bodies are temporary. They are like a vapor or mist. Don’t be discouraged by that verse or the fact that our lives on earth are temporary. Our spirit will live on forever! This earth is our temporary home. We need to take care of our bodies; but we need to realize that the most important thing is to take care of the eternal, the everlasting…our spirit.
1 Timothy 4:8 KJV says:
For bodily exercise profits us little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having the promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
Notice it doesn’t say that bodily exercise doesn’t profit us at all…it profits us some because our body is our temporary home. So, compared to our spirit which lasts forever, godliness is much more profitable to all we do here and the hereafter.
You hear a lot of people talking about finding themselves. We need to start that journey from the inside out. ISO stands for IN Search OF, and… In Side Out. We all want to be who God created us to be and fulfill the purpose He has for our life. We need to find out what our talent is!
You may ask, “What is beauty?” It depends on whom you ask. If you ask who the prettiest girl at the party is, it will depend on whom you ask. Different people have different opinions depending upon their taste in outward beauty. In Gods eyes, we are all beautiful. He has given us variety of beauty in everything we see: birds, flowers, people, butterflies… the list is never-ending along with their shapes, colors, designs, sounds, etc.!
To some, beauty is quiet and soft; while to someone else, beauty is energetic and outgoing. Some come from the outside while others come from inner beauty.
My grandmother, a wonderful woman of God, used to say, “Pretty is, as pretty does!” I believe this. Have you ever met someone and thought, “Wow, they are beautiful or handsome”; but once you got to know them better, the way you see the changes. I’ve thought to myself, “You know, I used to think they were so pretty, but they really are not!”
It’s the same way when you meet someone who is not as striking when you first meet them; but their personality, kindness, and love makes them beautiful. See, it works both ways; but for both, your final opinion will come from the inside out!!
We should never judge a book by its cover. First impressions can and will change! I was watching American Idol the other night and an average-looking person came out. When they spoke, they also sounded average. But when they began to sing, they were not average at all!! God places talents in all of us. Some are more easily seen than others. We should all be ISO inner beauty in ourselves and others, not quick to judge, but giving everyone a chance to show who God created them to be. People try to fit in when in reality, we were all created to stand out in different ways depending on God’s plans for us.
If you are looking for a mate or even just a friend, inner beauty is much more important than outward appearances. If they are hard to get along with but look great on the outside, just remember this: my grandmother used to say, “Beauty is only skin deep; ugly to the bone. When the pretty wears off, the ugly hangs on!”(lol) This is funny; but unless their inside is changed, this will be true.
In the beginning, we are all diamonds in the rough. A diamond isn’t beautiful when it’s first mined. There could be a raw diamond on the ground in front of you and you would keep walking! You would not recognize it for what it is because you can’t see its potential yet. You can’t see the finished product. Diamonds have to go through a process to become that brilliant, sparkling perfection that attracts us to them. Part of the process is first to be found by someone who recognizes what they are, then cleaned, cut, and polished to name a few.
After reading this, Britt Nicole’s song “Gold” came to my mind. Here is a link if you would like to hear it!
Just as I wrote in my first post, you have to start with the end in mind. What is your goal?
You need to nurture the talent God has placed in you. Invest in your talent. Invest in you! Develop your inner beauty and you will shine like a diamond from the inside out!
